During the Trojan War, the body of Sarpedon, son of the god Zeus and Laodamia, is carried to the Underworld by Hypnos (the Sleep) and Thanatos (the Death) once he fallen in combat, without even his all-mighty divine father being able to do something for fight Fate. The two minor gods, in turn, were brothers, sons of the powerful and dark goddess Nyx (the Night). They appeared in the world when the Pandora's Box was opened along with the rest of evils, misfortunes and diseases that afflict mankind (Apparently, the first men of the Golden Age were never tired or died), and they lived in a palace near the Hades, the Underworld, so they never saw the light of the Sun. Thanatos was the older, so it's usually even represented with a beard, while Hypnos, younger and jovial, entertained the night hours of mortals with his children, the Dreams.
Moving between legend and reality are the four founders of the Haudenosaunee or Iroquois Confederacy, in Northeast America. According to the stories, in the mid-15th century, the spiritual leader Dekanawida, better known as the Peacemaker out of respect for his name, after witnessing an eclipse had a vision of a union of tribes that would end the endemic instability of the area, with constant clashes between peoples. Consulting his project of a great peace with Jigonsaseh, a iroquois woman who would later be known as 'Mother of Nations', he met Hiawatha, a member of the onondaga tribe who was also tired with this situation. Together they managed to convince up to five tribes (later six) to unite and conform a union of peoples that would end the wars. Only Tadodaho, a powerful sorcerer from the onondaga tribe, opposed the abolition of the old customs. Capable of killing from a distance, it was said, and adorning his hair with snakes, Tadodaho managed to kill Hiawatha's wife and daughters in this way. However, Hiawatha didn't give up and, with the help of the Peacemaker, finally managed to unite Tadodaho to their cause.
To start the year off with a bang, I've decided to introduce changes to the blog, and the first of them has been to renew the header of the blog itself with my "coat of arms" after almost 10 years with the same. I hope you like the new image! Other changes that I hope to introduce to the blog will perhaps be a section for orders and commissions, since I need to reactivate the blog due to its increasingly low scope. I know it's partly to blame for my low activity in it lately (job prevents me from dedicating myself to something that doesn't bring me benefits for as long as I would like! 😅), but as a New Year's resolution, I hope to reverse this situation soon. So I look forward to all of you and your comments soon! See you!
